New Artist Discovery: The Gaslight Anthem

What is Punk Rock Soul? The Gaslight Anthem is. They have a very interesting sound to them with roots in punk, roots in rock and a bit of soul in some of their songs. I would recommend this band to someone who likes punk from time to time but likes a more traditional rock slightly more. While I probably wouldn't pay for an album of theirs I would buy a few of their songs from their second album, including "The '59 Sound".

New Artist Discovery: Jukebox the Ghost

Take Queen, the Sean Na Na Band, The Killers, Apollo Sunshine, Weezer and put them in a smoothie maker you've got Jukebox the Ghost. What does that mean? Well that means you have a completely unique band that has parts of great bands...and a lot of quirkiness and fun in the music. Definitely check out this band, especially the songs: "Hold It In", "Good Day"...and seriously, everything.

Album Review - Andrew Bird "Noble Beast"

Andrew Bird's latest "Noble Beast" was reviewed by relevant magazine.

In my own opinion (and I believe Gregarious agrees) this is a fantastic album. Andrew Bird just continues to amaze me, especially on this album where he experiments with more drum beats and different rhythms then he is used too. Still has the same great Andrew Bird violin and voice. Great stuff, check the album out or at least preview it on iTunes. But for now, enjoy this video:

Album Review: Fiction Family "Fiction Family"

As posted earlier by Gregarious, Fiction Family features the joining of the lead from Switchfoot and the guitarist from Nickel Creek. Since then they've released their album and Allmusic has a good review of it. Only got 3 stars but sounds promising.

Video Game Based Films: The World of Sub-par

So I was talking to Aaron the other day about the movie Hitman. We were both sorely disappointed in it because they put Hollywood to a great video game and a great video game storyline. They also put the love storyline in it and cast a horrible Hitman. Also doing poorly in the theater was Max Payne, Doom, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, etc... So Aaron brought up the challenge "Prove to me one good video game movie". Well, I can't and that brought me to this post. So the purpose of this post is to prove to you and challenge you that there are no good video game movies. Here is the is a list to prove it. I only see one on that list that might have done well in the theaters but still didn't follow the game much and wasn't all that good: Resident Evil.

Challenge: For the sake of Aaron's anger, find me a good video game movie and prove it.

Disclaimer: in order to be a good video game movie there needs to be the following criteria:
Not Hollywooded
Follows the video game storyline
Near perfect main character cast
Main character must act the same in the video game as the movie

Look at the "Films in production, pre-production, or TBA". I think they can redeem themselves when they make the Clancy games: Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six if they stay close to the video game and don't cast someone like the Rock.

New Artist Discovery: Monument, Monument

Got a recommendation from one of my most trusted music sources (and friend) Rob. He found a link to a new band called Monument, Monument that offers a free download to their new cd. From what I hear so far I really like them.

Baby Gregarious hath been borned

Congratulations to Gregarious on the birth of his first child Anna Mirabelle on Tuesday, January 13th at 4:44. She currently runs a 4.5 40 yard and can dead lift a hot dog stand. Congrats Gregarious and Lady Gregarious.
